August
August Review
If the Gilded Age is long gone, someone forgot to tell the folks at August, whose main dining room shimmers with masses of chandelier prisms, thick brocade fabrics, and glossy woods. Service is anything but stuffy, however, and chef John Besh's modern technique adorns every plate. Nothing is mundane here on the seasonally changing menu which might include handmade gnocchi with blue crab and winter truffle or rabbit cassoulet with andouille sausage. Expect the unexpected—like slow-roasted Kobe beef short ribs with Jerusalem artichokes. The sommelier is happy to confer with you on the surprisingly affordable wine list.

seriously, from Manhattan
We ate here on our last night in New Orleans and had a wonderful time. The staff is very attentive and the atmosphere (except for the banquet hall-style chairs) was beautiful. The heirloom beet salad was incredible (yes, just a salad, but WOW) and the veal chop was nicely prepared. From eying other dishes around the room it seemed obvious John Besh is a chef who pays close attention to food and it's preparations. I would definitely recommend a visit.

We go to NOLA every year for a convention right before Mardi Gras. August has provided me great meals for 3 years straight. But yesterday, I had lunch there. They hit it out of the park again.
Make sure you do your homework right now when you go out to eat in NO. Some of the best pre-Katrina restaurants are just ok now. That, IMO, is because they dont have enought help. There just arent alot of people living there. -
dejajj, from Chicago
We had dinner here last night and the food and the service was incredible. We told our waitress that we loved the complimentary appetizer and the chef brought out another one for us. Also I had casually mentioned that my husband loves bread pudding and the manager went to another restaurant and brought some to him (bread pudding is not on the menu). I have never been to a restaurant that treats their guests as well as we were treated. The whole experience is not to be missed.

I selected this restaurant based on Fodor's choice for my group of 10 traveling to a convention. while it was apparent that they typically don't take reservations for that size group, they went out of their way to accommodate us. The food was excellent, but the service was impeccable!!! Highly recommend it, no matter the size of your group.
