InterContinental New Orleans
444 St. Charles Ave., New Orleans, Louisiana 70130, USA
Though it looks like a modern office building from the outside, this large hotel close to everything has simple, elegant decor throughout, and professional, accommodating staff. A recently renovated lobby provides comfortable lounging, dining and drinking, and spacious rooms have sweeping views of the city.
Renovated rooms have a clean, modern look, with large, comfy beds and views of downtown and the French Quarter.
Marble vanities have large mirrors and round shaving mirrors. Bathtubs (with shower heads) are roomier than average.
The low-lit lamps, murals, and leather couches of this modern, clean lobby give a nod to classic New Orleans decor. An open floor plan lets you explore the lobby's several amenities, like a bar and coffee shop.
YOU SHOULD KNOW Standard W-Fi is quite slow. You can upgrade for about a $25 charge, if it means that much to you, though.
A small, enclosed pool deck on an upper level has a big enough pool for swimming laps, and plenty of lounge chairs.
The gym is spacious, with windows looking out onto the pool deck and plenty of room to stretch and do exercises between state-of-the-art machines.
In the lobby, Pete's serves a breakfast buffet with fresh baked goods and made-to-order omelets, and a casual lunch specializing in wood-fire pizzas. Trenasse is great for a more elegant dinner and serves large portions of contemporary New Orleans favorites. Room service is available 24 hours.
The hotels offers a limited poolside dining menu.
Pete's offers a generous happy hour from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Trenasse has a robust wine list. Poolside cocktails are available as well.
The St. Charles streetcar runs in front of the hotel, and will take you uptown or to the French Quarter.
Balise (8-minute walk) is a chic bistro spot with farm-to-table bites, and Maypop (11-minute walk) offers inventive dim sum options at lunch, and delicious Asian fusion renderings for dinner.
Gravier Street Social (6-minute walk) has a nice, loungey vibe and late night weekend burlesque shows. Loa (7-minute walk) offers a romantic atmosphere and friendly, knowledgeable bartenders.
