Homewood Suites by Hilton New Orleans

901 Poydras St., New Orleans, Louisiana 70112, USA

Cameron Todd

Bright, spacious suites at this hotel resemble apartments and are great for extended stay travelers. You're close to the Superdome and many restaurants and museums in the Warehouse District, while still within walking distance to the Quarter.

room

Suites have separate living and sleeping areas, one or two bedrooms, and equipped kitchens with dishwashers, microwaves, and refrigerators.

YOU SHOULD KNOW Most suites have sofa beds, but many guests complain these can be quite stiff and not ideal sleeping conditions.

bathroom

Large bathrooms have closets, separate vanity areas, and bathtub/shower combinations.

lobby

A fairly standard lobby has a concierge, small sitting area, ATM, and snack shop. There is also a business center with computers for guests use and fax, photocopy, and printing capabilities.

pool

Its unusual to see an indoor pool in New Orleans, though in the dead of summer this could be a blessing. The pool courtyard is lined in red brick, includes a small round hot tub, and the room gets plenty of light.

gym

A small fitness room has two treadmills, an elliptical, stationary bike, and free weights area.

dining

A hearty continental breakfast includes pancakes or waffles, fresh fruit, oatmeal, and eggs. On weekday evenings, the hotel hosts a reception with light far like salad and cheese.

YOU SHOULD KNOW If you're counting on free breakfast, head there early: food runs out in the last hour or so, and isn't always replenished.

drinking

The free reception Monday through Thursday evenings includes beer and wine.

LOCATION

Getting Around

It's a 3-minute walk to the St. Charles streetcar, taking you to most other neighborhoods in the city. Valet parking is $35/night.

Restaurants

Herbsaint (7-minute walk) has refreshingly modern twists on classic New Orleans fare. Head to The Daily Beet (5-minute walk) for a fresh juice or vegan rice bowl when you need a healthy fix.

Bars

Juan's Flying Burrito (1-minute walk) is a casual spot for cheap but delicious margaritas. Head to the Little Gem Saloon (2-minute walk) for martinis and live jazz.

WHY WE LIKE IT

Rooms have high ceilings and large windows. Details and service are somewhat inconsistent at this hotel, but a full kitchen in every suite, cheap coin laundry on site, and a free, filling breakfast, gives it many conveniences for a long term traveler on a budget.
