Gay and lesbian travelers will find Chicago a very welcoming, progressive city with a vibrant gay scene. Bars, coffeehouses, and publications serving the interests of gays and lesbians exist citywide, particularly in the adjoining neighborhoods of Lake View and New Town (aka "Boys Town"), bordered by Irving Park Road, Lincoln Avenue, Belmont Avenue, and Lake Shore Drive, and Andersonville, which is bordered by Devon Avenue, Ridge Avenue, Sheridan Road, and Lawrence Avenue.

Pick up Gay Chicago Magazine (773/327-7271. www.gaychicagomag.com) to find out more information on the gay and lesbian scene in Chicago. The Windy City Media Group (773/871-7610. www.wctimes.com) publishes gay and lesbian papers specifically on nightlife (Nightspots), the African-American community (Blacklines), and the Latin-American community (En La Vida).
