Fodor's Review

Ian Schrager revamped the historic Ambassador East Hotel as the affordably chic Public Chicago. In keeping with the democratic pricing, he left the naming of the restaurant to locals, who voted to keep it the Pump Room. In the sleek bar area, complete with gold-leaf ceiling, celebrity spotting still reigns supreme—as it did in the storied spot's heydey, when the likes of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall occupied Booth One. A separate Library Bar off the lobby offers coffee and pastries by day and cocktails at night.
