Fodor's Review

A Chicago institution, the Green Mill in not-so-trendy Uptown has been around since 1907. Deep leather banquettes and ornate wood paneling line the walls, and a photo of former patron Al Capone occupies a place of honor on the piano behind the bar. The jazz entertainment is both excellent and contemporary—the club launched the careers of Kurt Elling and Patricia Barber; the Uptown Poetry Slam, a competitive poetry reading, takes center stage on Sunday.
