Chicago Restaurants

Big Star Review

It's cramped and noisy, and the service is often ambivalent, but most locals are willing to bear the substantial waits at Big Star because the tacos are some of the best in the city. Most of this honky-tonk taqueria's star power comes from chef Paul Kahan (of Blackbird, Avec, and Publican), who serves up tasty tacos like spit-roasted pork shoulder with grilled pineapple and beer-battered tilapia with spicy chipotle slaw. If it's a taco emergency, skip the line for a table and head to the takeout window, taking your tacos to the spacious park across the street.
