Cons

Fodor's Review

European travelers love this hotel for its cozy, residential feel; two-thirds of the rooms have separate sitting areas and pullout couches. The neighborhood is a favorite with young people, and it's a safe and appealing escape from the downtown scene. The hotel's proximity to the El train is both a blessing and a curse; you'll have easy access to downtown and the North Side, but the rumbling noise might be a pain at night. Amenities include a complimentary continental breakfast, afternoon cookies, tea and coffee all day, free Wi-Fi, and access to a nearby health club.

Great Service, Decor and Location

My husband and I stayed at City Suites this year. We were able to have our luggage placed in a room since we were too early for check-in. I forgot to get something from my luggage but staff were kind enough to unlock the room again. One of the staff was nice enough to let us check two different rooms (a King room, and 2 Queens with a separate sitting area) and to check the noise level of the subway train. We opted to have the 2 Queen room with sitting

area which was nicely decorated, small but cute bathroom, had the sitting area was great for spreading out our luggage. Cookies were offered in the lobby in the afternoon and the lobby breakfast had enough seating and good selection. Staff were very helpful about which subways to take. If you are a light sleeper, the trains at night might be an issue but we did fine. The bed linens were quite nice and everything appeared to be very clean. The subway train was just steps away, as were many offerings of restaurants. The hotel was also just a few blocks away to the baseball stadium and we enjoyed some sports bars in that area for dinner. I would not hesitate to re-visit City Suites Hotel.

Recommended for all except light sleepers

The location is fantastic, particularly if you need to be north of downtown Chicago, or near Wrigley. Ann Sather's Swedish restaurant is right next door, so there's good places to eat even though the hotel has no restaurant. The staff was bewildered: from my dealings I found them to be polite but a little bit clueless. The elevated train is a pro and a con: transportation is right at the hotel's doorstep, but it also means you hear all the noise

from the elevated train. I cannot recommend the hotel to light sleepers.

Walk to the bars, the 'el' is right there

Great location, friendly staff. Smaller rooms, but nice amenities. Free continental breakfast. Would recommend!

Close to Wrigley Field

We went to Chicago primarily to see a ball game at Wrigley Field. I searched for hotels within walking distance of the ball park and picked City Suites for that very reason. We were not disappointed. Rooms were very nice, management helpful, and free breakfast! Rooms were a little noisy due to the El being right next door, but not outragously so. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to visit Wrigley but doesn't want the hassle

of parking your car there. Stay and park at City Suites---save yourself some grief.
