Why We Like It

Yes, it's part of the affordable-nothing-special Best Western Plus brand but this property really does embody the neighborhood and is a rare North Side hotel convenient to attractions like Wrigley Field, DePaul University and more. And yet traveling downtown is a breeze, so you have the best of both worlds.

Fodor's Expert Review

Very near to Wrigley Field and tucked into the thriving Lakeview neighborhood, this Best Western offers essential amenities at a reasonable price that you're simply not going to find in the Loop. Wake up to a free hot breakfast buffet (included in rates) and enjoy the gym's whirlpool and sauna. Although there's little room to relax in the American colonial–style lobby, accommodations are inviting enough. Deluxe options even come with whirlpool tubs. The hotel's front terrace becomes a place to see and be seen in the summer months, especially during street festivals, of which there are many in this part of town.

Tip Parking here is amazingly cheap--when compared to other Chicago hotels--at $40 per night.

Room

Awash in neutral hues and your standard hotel-room furnishings (in other words, this is not a designer-boutique hotel), rooms are spacious and are stocked with a Keurig coffeemaker. Still, consider splurging on a one- or two-bedroom suite if you are traveling in a group as these accommodations include a full kitchen, separate sitting areas and a whirlpool tub. In-room fridges and microwaves help you keep to a budget when you crave a snack.

You Should Know Yes, pets are welcome, but for a fee, so proceed with caution when calculating your final nightly rate.

Bathroom

Granite countertops in the bath lend a modern edge while, in most rooms, the glass-walled, walk-in shower is an improvement over your standard shower-tub combo.

Lobby

Past the chic black-and-white striped awning is a lobby with a fireplace and Art Deco-style furnishings that feel at home in this residential hotel. There's certainly enough room to hang out here with a good book and cup of coffee.

Gym

While not as stocked with state-of-the-art equipment as some Loop hotels, there is a stationary bicycle, strength machine and treadmill. Round out your work-out by taking advantage of the sauna and whirlpool.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

Because parking only runs $40 a night, and this hotel is far North, should you plan to travel outside of the neighborhood it might make sense to bring the car. Otherwise, a car-free stay is quite easy thanks to nearby L lines and the 146 bus (catch it a block away on North Lake Shore Drive). Uber drivers are always a few minutes away and on weekend nights especially it isn't hard to hail a cab.

Restaurants

Chicago Diner (7-minute) is a funky vegan, old-school diner that will keep even carnivores happy--the diner even has its own cookbook. For a completely different take, order a unique burger (like the "Mac & Cheese Attack" burger at the Zagat-recommended Rockit Burger Bar (18-minute walk), part of a local restaurant group and across the street from Wrigley Field.

Bars

Even if you're not a Cubs fan, Cubby Bear (15-minute walk) is a hopping place every night of the week, even on non-game days. Roscoe's is an LGBT-friendly bar dating back to the late '80s and outfitted with a dance floor.
