$$$$, Mexican, Near North
Fodor's Review:
David Burke's Primehouse. New York celebrity chef David Burke runs Primehouse in the boutique James hotel and though local reception was initially cautious -- after all, what could a New Yorker teach a Chicagoan about steak? -- the restaurant has been roundly embraced for its convivial setting and sense of playfulness, including identifying 207L, the steer responsible for producing the menu's prime beef. Don't miss Burke's innovative cuts including a 28-day-dry-aged rib eye and the bone-in filet mignon. Interactive elements including table-side tossed Caesar salads and fill-your-own doughnuts for dessert feed the considerable energy in the generally packed room. The best seats are the red-leather booths along the walls.
