We don't know if the sardine reference was meant to telegraph the seating arrangements, but, yes, it's snug here. Still, the solid menu of traditional French bistro favorites—including warm goat-cheese salad, bouillabaisse, and roasted chicken with potato purée—seems to put everyone in a convivial mood. Save room for decadent desserts like crème brûlée and warm apple tart, which are bound to evoke envious looks from adjacent diners.

La Sardine offers well prepared food at great prices. The chocolate souffle was the most fabulous dessert I've ever had the pleasure to eat -- don't miss it! I can't wait to make a return trip to La Sardine on my next visit to Chicago!

Inexpensive and tasty appetizers and good entrees but not outstanding. The sweet breads (fried thyroid glands) were excellent but the rabbit was ho-hum. Nice atmosphere and very pleasant and comfortable, smart looking clientele. Great place to spend a long dinner. Excellent service! Good wine selection by the bottle but poor by the glass. Desserts not too exciting but great coffee and after dinner drinks
