Hot Doug's Review

Don't tell the zealots who have made Hot Doug's famous that these are just hot dogs—these "encased meats" go beyond your standard hot dog. Expect gourmet options like chipotle chicken sausage, smoked crawfish and pork sausage with spicy remoulade, lamb sausage with raita, and even, sometimes, antelope sausage—there are about ten specials every day, in addition to the regular menu. Come on a Friday or Saturday, when the indulgent (and locally infamous) duck-fat fries are available. The clientele is a curious mix of hungry hard hats and serious foodies, neither of whom care about the lack of frills or inevitable long line. Hot Doug's is only open until 4 pm, so plan accordingly.
