Water Works Pumping Station

Water Works Pumping Station Review

Water is still pumped to some of the city residents at a rate of about 250 million gallons per day from this Gothic-style structure, which, along with the Water Tower across the street, survived the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The acclaimed Lookingglass Theatre calls this place home.

Chicago Water Works Visitor Center. The station also houses a Chicago Water Works Visitor Center. 877/244-2246. www.explorechicago.org/city/en/travel_tools/visitor_centers.html. Mon.-Thurs. 8 am-7 pm, Fri. 8 am-6 pm, Sat. 9 am-6 pm, Sun. 10 am-6 pm.
