Julius Meinl Cafe

Julius Meinl Cafe Review

Viennese coffee roaster Julius Meinl operates this very European café in an unexpected location at the intersection of Addison and Southport, just a few blocks from Wrigley Field. Comfortable banquettes and a supply of international newspapers bid coffee sippers to stick around. Vegetable focaccia and pear-and-Brie sandwiches, hazelnut and blue-cheese salads, Frittaten (Austrian beef broth with crepe noodles), and loads of European pastries feed the peckish. We love the Austrian breakfast of soft-boiled egg, ham, and Emmentaler cheese—this is the only place in the city that serves it. Classical and jazz combos entertain Friday and Saturday.
