It seems like there's a sushi spot on practically every corner in Chicago, but when Kamehachi opened in Old Town in 1967, it was the first. Quality fish, updated decor, and eager-to-please hospitality keep fans returning. Behind the busy sushi bar, chefs manage both restaurant orders and the many take-out calls of neighbors. We find combinations, including maki rolls, nigiri sushi, and miso soup, are often a bargain, running from $13 to $30. Belly up to the sushi bar, or take a seat in the upstairs lounge, or the flowering garden (in season). The Streeterville spin-off offers semiprivate tatami rooms ideal for groups.
