Cheap, cheerful, and fast—what's not to love about Pompeii? Little Italy's only casual café with a strong kitchen specializes in square slices of pizza, each under $3, with toppings ranging from shredded onions and sausage to bread crumbs and tomato. One to two easily makes a meal. Between University of Illinois Chicago students and Rush-Presbyterian hospital workers, Pompeii is jammed at lunch. If you can tolerate the self-serve system at dinner, the evening hours are more relaxing. If pizza's not your thing, salad, generous sandwiches, and homemade pastas are also on the menu.

When you first walk in, you may think it is Fast Food Italian. Well, to some extent it is but the homemade pasta is like my grandmother;s. Eight Finger Cavetelli and Meatballs is the ticket. Ravioli was excellent as well
