Rising dramatically at the end of LaSalle Street -- heart of the city's financial district -- Holabird & Root's building is a streamlined giant from the days when art deco was all the rage. The artfully lit marble lobby soars three stories; atop the roof stands Ceres, the Roman goddess of agriculture. Erected in 1930, this 45-story structure reigned as the city's tallest skyscraper until 1955, when the Prudential Center grabbed that title.
