Fodor's Review

Teruaki Mori designed this pub to make you feel that you're in a northern inn during winter in his native Japan. It is one of the most traditional of Honolulu's izakaya but does now also include some modern twists on traditional items. Dishes not to miss—aji tataki (seared, vinegar-marinated jack mackerel topped with ginger), karei kara-age (delicate deep-fried flounder), dobinmushi (mushroom consommé presented in a teapot), fried gobo (burdock) chips, and crab, avocado and bacon salad. And don't forget to try the frozen sake: the menu item that brings locals back begging for more. Open until 1:30 am on Friday and Saturday, it's good for a late-night bite.
