Fodor's Expert Review Greens and Vines
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
Honolulu's only raw-food restaurant was an immediate hit when it opened in 2012, having filled a healthy hole in the city's dining landscape. Dishes such as the Living Lasagna, made with layers of seasoned zucchini, basil pesto, sun-dried tomato "marinara," macadamia nut "ricotta," and spinach have meat eaters convinced that raw and vegan food is delicious. The casual café also has a refrigerated case of entrées, spreads, and crackers to go. The impressive wine list often gets overlooked but is actually the reason behind the "Vines" part of the restaurant's name. Located right across from Blaisdell Center, it's a great spot for dinner before a show or concert. Chef-owner Sylvia Thompson and her husband are oenophiles and hold periodic wine-tasting dinners.
