A roomy, comfortable restaurant with an extensive menu, Paddler's Inn is right in Kaunakakai town but on the ocean side of Kamehameha V Highway. There are three eating areas -- standard restaurant seating, a shady cool bar, and an open-air courtyard where you can sit at a counter eating poke (raw, marinated cubes of fish) and drinking beer while getting cooled with spray -- on hot days -- from an overhead misting system. The food is a blend of island-style and standard American fare (fresh poke every day; a prime rib special every Friday night). There's live entertainment every Wednesday and local bands play on weekends.
