Staff members are helpful and friendly at this local favorite, where the two-story, semi-A-frame buildings are arranged in a landscaped tropical setting. Some units overlook the reef and distant Lanai. The rooms were renovated in late 2007 and are bright and comfortably furnished. The airy Hula Shores restaurant overlooks the ocean and serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, and libations—with local entertainment nightly. Ask about deals in conjunction with airlines and rental-car companies when you make your reservation. There is an activities desk in the lobby. Pros: five minutes to shopping and town; some kitchenettes; authentic Hawaiian entertainment. Cons: no-frills; can be difficult to secure a reservation on weekends; lower-priced rooms are small and plain.
