Biking in Molokai

Street biking on this island is a dream for pedalers who like to eat up the miles. Molokai's few roads are long, straight, and extremely rural. You can really stretch out and go for it—no traffic lights and most of the time no traffic. If you don't happen to be one of those athletes who always travels with your own customized cycling tool, you can rent something from Molokai Bicycle (80 Mohala St., Kaunakakai, 96748. 808/553-3931) in Kaunakakai. Single-Track Trails at Molokai Ranch. Molokai Ranch, headquartered in the small town of Maunaloa in West Molokai, was once known for some of the best mountain-bike experiences in the world, but lately the trails have deteriorated and are overgrown. Expect to have to hoist your bike over a locked gate. If you want to try anyway, Molokai Fish and Dive runs the activity desk at the ranch, and has a rental shop with older mountain bikes and related two-wheel gear. 61 Ala Malama St., Kaunakakai, 96748. 808/553-5926. molokaifishanddive.com.
