Why We Like It
Wailea Resort really does have it all, and it appeals to a variety of travelers. The recent remodel has turned this hotel into a place that is luxurious, relaxing, and family-friendly, all in one. The contemporary look and special features like on-site movie theater, excellent dining, and variety of pools all make this a resort you’ll never want to leave.
Fodor's Expert Review
The Marriott's rooms sit closer to the crashing surf than the rooms at most resorts, and a stay here promises not only close proximity to the water but also luxurious amenities, spacious accommodations, and golf and tennis privileges nearby. Guest rooms, all with private lanai, have a sleek, contemporary, residential feel. Wailea Beach is a few steps away, as are the Shops at Wailea. On-site, the 10,000-square-foot Mandara Spa is elegant and peaceful, and the gorgeous, adults-only "Serenity" pool has an unobstructed panoramic ocean view from almost every lounge chair. Enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner, and sunset mai tais at the new Kapa restaurant and bar at the renovated Makani pools, which have cabanas and fire pits. An update in 2016 saw the addition of the Nalu Adventure Pool for families (with the longest resort waterslide in Hawaii), along with new dining options, among many other updates.
You Should Know There is a $38 resort fee here, but it does include a variety of amenities including bike rentals, WiFi, intro scuba class, and more.

Room
Guests can choose from 20 different room categories that include resort room, garden view, ocean view, ocean front, and a large variety of suites. Rooms have recently been updated to include ocean-themed decor, mini fridges, WiFi, and large lanais.
Tip If this is the hotel for you, start your vacation planning with the hotel -- the Marriott site has a great search feature that allows you to choose flexible dates on the reservation system in order to find the best deals. A quick test search revealed price differences between $100 and $600 using this tool.
Bathroom
Bathrooms are large and luxurious. Most bathrooms have a large vanity with mirror, with tub/shower combo (with tubs a bit deeper and wider than a standard hotel tub) and toilet in a separate chamber.
Lobby
The open-air/half indoor and half outdoor lobby is trendy and bold, with a water feature, plenty of lounging areas, beautiful views. This is definitely the type of lobby that guests want to hang out in.
Pool
The Ohi Pools sit oceanfront with amazing views, an infinity waterfall edge, loungers, and hot tubs. The Maluhia Serenity Pool, the hotel’s adults-only offering, is an absolutely stunning infinity pool with ocean views, loungers with umbrellas, cabanas, and a true air of luxury. At the Nalu Adventure Pool, young guests will find the longest resort waterslide in Hawaii (along with three other waterslides, splash pad, family-sized cabanas, and more.
Spa
At the exquisite Mandara Spa guests can choose from an array of treatments including massage, full salon services, body wraps, and more in their 11 treatment rooms that include couples suites and ocean view rooms. A few of their signature treatments include Balinese massage, Cellutox aroma spa ocean wrap, and hot and cold massage.
Gym
The 24-hour LifeFitness gym is quite lovely and includes cardio and weight machines, as well as complimentary fitness classes.
Dining
For a quick breakfast and coffee fix grab and go at either Starbucks or Whale’s Tale (that also offers cold-pressed juices and smoothies). Families playing at the Nalu Adventure Pool will want to grab a quick bite at the Mo Bettah Food Truck which serves up some classic Hawaiian treats like poke bowls and shave ice for lunch. KAPA Bar & Grill is a great choice for lunch and dinner, with light, casual poolside fare. The hotel’s signature restaurant, Humble Market Kitchin by Roy Yamaguchi serves up breakfast and dinner full of fresh ingredients and Hawaiian-inspired dishes in a refined setting with incredible views.
Dinner and a show can be found at Te Au Moana Luau held Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings. Other dining options include in-room dining, as well as oceanfront and cabana candlelight dinner dining.
Drinking
Guests can enjoy sunset cocktails at Whale’s Tale, grab a frozen drink for lunch at NALU Pool Bar, enjoy beautiful views for lunch or dinner while sipping a cocktail at KAPA Bar & Grill. Humble Market Kitchin also hosts a lovely nightly happy hour in the bar and lounge featuring a few specialty cocktails, wine, beer, and pupus.

Getting Around
It’s easy (and preferable) to explore Maui’s smaller towns by foot, but to get to them and around the island, you’ll need to rent a car. If you plan on exploring the Road to Hana, get something with a little extra horsepower (but not too big as the road can get very narrow).
Restaurants
Beloved Hawaiian chef Sheldon Simeon’s newest project, a contemporary take on his family’s Filipino food, takes diners through his personal story, ranging from his childhood to his time on “Top Chef.” The dishes at Lineage (3-min walk) are deeply personal, and the new interpretations of the food Simeon grew up with use incredible ingredients, including gorgeous vegetables from Oprah Winfrey’s Maui farm. The cocktail program at the beautiful bar is just as exceptional as the food, and the surprising amount of plant-based options is refreshing (but there are plenty of elevated traditional options for meat lovers).
Dining at The Mill House (25-min drive) should top any Maui itinerary, giving guests the chance to enjoy innovative, beautiful, locally sourced dishes. Add to the food a variety of fun cocktails and a massive wine list all wrapped up with clever, beautiful styling, and it’s hard to pull yourself away. An extensive happy hour from 2 to 5 p.m. gives guests the chance to try a variety of small plates and drinks. The views of the clouds wisping by the west Maui mountains and the fun duck pond off the patio makes the dining experience even more special.
Bars
The Four Seasons (3-min drive) is known around the world for its welcoming lobby bars, whether you’re a guest or not, and the gorgeous Maui hotel is no exception. The lobby bar recently underwent a facelift that included new furniture, new staff uniforms, and an entirely new cocktails menu that is arranged by the changing colors of the day, with plenty of twists on tropical classics. Enjoy with music and comfy views while relaxing on comfy, new furniture.
Though it may not be as popular as another Hawaiian brewing company, Maui Brewing Co. (12-min drive) deserves every bit as much respect, especially since it’s still local. Its newest brewery, tasting room, and pub in Kihei is super sleek and fun. Drop in for a brewery tour or grab a seat at the massively long bar and try out some of their seasonal beers that are only available at the brewery. Be sure to grab a crowler or growler to enjoy those special flavors during the rest of your trip.
