Fodor's Review

Meandering gardens, spacious rooms, and an on-site restaurant distinguish this large condominium complex that's primarily a time-share property, with a few units available as vacation rentals—those on the upper floors benefit from the height, with matchless ocean views stretching away from private lanai. The oceanfront penthouse, which accommodates up to eight, is a bargain at $495 per night during peak season. One-, two-, and three-bedroom units are also available in the rental pool. Kids can enjoy their own swimming pool area near a putting green and ponds filled with giant koi.

DO NOT Stay in a one bedroom unit -- No Air Conditioning

We are currently staying here. The resort is quite dated. The beach is nice, and the grounds are pretty ... but none of the units have air conditioning. All the one bedroom units are on the bottom floor and face the parking lots. They are noisy, and have little privacy ... people can easily see in your room. If you cannot get a two bedroom or bigger, my advice would be to stay elsewhere.

Sands of Kahana Review

Chain Smoking Neighbor and no A/C makes for a bad combination. This property claims to be smoke-free, but smoking is allowed by certain residents including the chain smoking residents directly below our ocean front unit. This renders the lanai (and the oceanfront rooms when the door and windows are open) of the unit useless for anyone wanting or needing to avoid second hand smoke. This problem is exacerbated by the fact that many units do not

have air conditioning and the only way to cool the units off to a semi comfortable temperature is to have all of the windows open. Pick your poison.

Fodor review of Sands of Kahana very ambitious

I own a unit in this property. Worst investment I ever made. My family traveled there summer 2008. We had never stayed at the property, but purchased it in 2000. We were so offended by its condition that we checked in at 10:00pm and checked out at 10:10pm. Disgusting, filthy condition. No air conditioning. We called about the lack of AC and was told to open windows, but be careful for "safety". Dimly lighted hallways, filthy garage, overgrown

landscape. With our kids, we were not remotely interested in this property. We checked into the Sheraton Maui, two rooms at $300 a night, just to NOT have to stay at the Sands of Kahana. The front desk staff was completely uninterested in our input. This is a low end property, sure to have special assessments and completely improperly managed. This place is a dump. My unit is for sale for $10,000, hell, $5,000 or make an offer.
