The Banyan Tree
The Banyan Tree Review
The setting is sublime, the atmosphere serene, and the service elegant at this signature restaurant of the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua. Drink in views of the Pailolo Channel and the Island of Molokai while enjoying perfectly prepared Island cuisine full of worldly influences. The dukka (Middle Eastern spice mixture) delivered with your bread is just a hint of the delights to come. Chef JoJo Vasquez's recent seasonal offerings have included raw hamachi in Vietnamese marinade, grilled Colorado lamb with eggplant puree, and Maui-made Surfing Goat feta cgeese and garlic confit.

after anxiously awaiting a romantic honeymoon dinner I cannot begin to describe the disappointment that this dining experience was. Kobe Beef $65 entree had 1/5 fat!! Service ignored us most of the time, reservations were ignored-I was told when I arrived it was a "first come first serve basis"- there are NO views of the sunset from this restaurant although in West Maui the hotels buildings block the sunset!! There is no air conditioning in this restaurant- I was dripping sweat when I left and my hair grew 4 times from the humidity-for $300 you can do better-SKIP it!

The Concierge at the Ritz-Carlton recommended Banyan Tree and said it would be as wonderful a meal and dining experience as The Lahina Grille, so we made reservations. We really were disappointed. We arrived after dark so there was no view. The food was truly boring, no fun, exciting sauces or accompianments. The service was fair, not exceptional. For the money, it was disappointing and I cannot recommend it. I think the atmosphere, food and service at Lahini Grille the night prior set the tone of our expectations, and unfortunatley Banyon Tree did not meet those expectations. Our waitor seemed in a hurry the entire night and the menu selection was small. Not a top five list for Maui restaurants in our view.
