Maui Restaurants

The Banyan Tree

Updated 02/20/2014

Fodor's Review

The setting is sublime, the atmosphere serene, and the service elegant at this signature restaurant of the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua. Drink in views of the Pailolo Channel and Molokai while enjoying expertly prepared Island cuisine. The distinctive menu, which changes regularly, is inspired by seasonal ingredients from Hawaii's farms and puts the spotlight on freshly caught seafood.

save your money!

after anxiously awaiting a romantic honeymoon dinner I cannot begin to describe the disappointment that this dining experience was. Kobe Beef $65 entree had 1/5 fat!! Service ignored us most of the time, reservations were ignored-I was told when I arrived it was a "first come first serve basis"- there are NO views of the sunset from this restaurant although in West Maui the hotels buildings block the sunset!! There is no air conditioning in this restaurant-

I was dripping sweat when I left and my hair grew 4 times from the humidity-for $300 you can do better-SKIP it!

The Concierge at the Ritz-Carlton recommended Banyan Tree and said it would be as wonderful a meal and dining experience as The Lahina Grille, so we made reservations. We really were disappointed. We arrived after dark so there was no view. The food was truly boring, no fun, exciting sauces or accompianments. The service was fair, not exceptional. For the money, it was disappointing and I cannot recommend it. I think the atmosphere, food and

service at Lahini Grille the night prior set the tone of our expectations, and unfortunatley Banyon Tree did not meet those expectations. Our waitor seemed in a hurry the entire night and the menu selection was small. Not a top five list for Maui restaurants in our view.

Interesting, inovative new chef

After our last visit a new chef from australia has arrived. Great food, inovative and a culinary revelation. Try his foie gras ice cream and Moi with lentil dahl. Amazing!

All is right at Banyan Tree

I'm surprised this restaurant is not more well know among the various websites rating Maui food. We just came back from Maui last week and this rates as one of our favorite spots for dinner. We also went for lunch and would recommend lunch only if you plan to drop $50 or so. Definitely a fine dining restaurant with prices to match, but the quality and atmosphere make it worth every penny. At dinner we shared the best diver scallops I've ever had,

seared and tasting like butter. My wife had an excellent rack of lamb and I had an herb crusted fish whose Hawaiian name escapes me. Too full for dessert (surprisingly large portions), the bill came to $150 with tip and a nice bottle of wine. Service was just right - not pretentious, not obtrusive but knowledgeable and friendly. Would go back again if we ever find ourselves in Maui again.
