Fodor's Review

Spread across 10 beautiful acres along one of the best beaches on Maui, the Napili Kai with its old Hawaii feel draws a loyal following to its Hawaiian-style rooms that open onto private lanai. Rooms closest to the beach have no air-conditioning, but ceiling fans usually suffice. "Hotel" rooms have only mini-refrigerators and coffeemakers, whereas studios and suites have fully equipped kitchenettes. For the most bang for your buck, splurge on the condo units at the western edge of the property, which have fully-equipped stainless steel kitchens, wide lanais with views of turtles, and pools reserved for that building. Be sure to dine at the recently renovated Sea House restaurant with indoor/outdoor seating and spectacular ocean view. There's also an indoor/outdoor massage center offering a range of treatments, and a boutique selling resort wear and estate jewelry. This is a family-friendly place, with children's programs, free classes in lei making, and newly enlarged main pool.

It's All About the Beach

Everyone was incredibly friendly from the time we checked in until the moment we left a week later. It might be "unhip" but if that means it is quiet and relaxing, I am all for that. There was a range of folks here, from older couples to younger couples to families with small children. The restaurant is decent and in a great location to have your gaze wander the beach or take in the sunset. And what a beach! A copper crescent of soft sand in

black lava quotation marks, perfect for swimming or snorkelling. The bay is alive with turtles and lots of species of bright-coloured fish. We even saw a small octopus. On the last morning we were there, we even saw a whale breaching offshore from our balcony, despite being the very "tail end" (pun intended) of the season. The kitchen was invaluable, as we could have a quick breakfast before hitting the beach. We will be back.
