Island Driving Times

Maui may seem like a small island, but driving from one point to another can take longer than the mileage indicates. It's only 52 mi from Kahului Airport to Hana, but the drive will take you about three hours. As for driving to Haleakala, the 38-mi drive from sea level to the summit will take you about two hours. The roads are narrow and winding; you must go at a slow pace.

Kahului is the transportation hub—the main airport and largest harbor are here. Traffic on Maui's roads can be heavy, especially during the rush hours of 6 AM to 8:30 AM and 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM; this will add time to your drive. Here are average driving times to key destinations.
