This ornate resort overlooking Hulopoe Bay combines Mediterranean and Asian architectural elements: elaborate life-size paintings of Chinese court officials, gold brocade warrior robes, and artifacts decorate the open-air lobbies. Courtyard gardens separate two-story guest-room buildings. Ground-floor rooms are best—many open right up onto a lawn overlooking Hulopoe Beach—though spectacular coastline vantages are had just about anywhere on the property. Adults can indulge in Evian spritzers and massage by the pool while keiki (children) hunt for crabs and play ukulele. At night, everyone can meet for shuffleboard and darts in Hale Ahe Ahe, the swank game room. A shuttle runs from the resort to other destinations on Lanai every half hour during high season, and every hour during low season. Pros: fitness center with ocean views and daily classes; teens have their own center; friendly pool bar. Cons: 20 minutes to town for shopping and restaurants; must rely on shuttle or rental car to leave property; ambience may seem stiff and formal to some.

Fabulous resort with a beautiful beach where one can watch the whales and porpoises frolic. Excellent food especially the frehs fish served in the evening poolside. Isolated from tourists by the ferry. Great place for Honeymooners
