This tidy plantation town, built in 1924 by Jim Dole, is home to old-time residents, recently arrived resort workers, and second-home owners, and is slowly changing from a quiet rural village to a busy little town. A simple grid of roads here is lined with stately Cook pines and all the basic services a person might need. The pace is slow and the people are friendly. Dole Park,in the center of Lanai City, is surrounded by small shops and restaurants and is a favorite spot among locals for sitting, strolling, and talking story. Visit the Lanai Arts & Cultural Center to get a glimpse of this island's creative abundance.
