Renting a Car

Renting a Car

Renting a four-wheel-drive vehicle is expensive but almost essential to get beyond the resorts. There are only 30 mi of paved road on the island. The rest of your driving takes place on bumpy, muddy, secondary roads, which generally aren't marked. Make reservations far in advance, because Lanai's fleet of vehicles is limited. If you're staying at the island's hotels, a convenient shuttle bus can take you from the beach to Upcountry.
