Kayaking in Lanai

Lanai's southeast coast offers leisurely paddling and miles of scenic coastline with deserted beaches to haul up on inside the windward reef. Curious sea turtles and friendly manta rays may tag along your kayak for company. When the wind comes from the southwest, the windward coast is tranquil. Kayaking along the leeward cliffs is more demanding with rougher seas and strong currents. No kayaking is permitted in the Marine Conservation District at Hulopoe Bay.

Early mornings tend to be calmer. The wind picks up as the day advances. Expect strong currents along all of the coasts. Experience on the water is advised, and knowing how to swim is essential. There is one other glitch: there are no kayak rentals on the island, so you need to book a tour or bring your own.
