Despite a face-lift, this popular shopping center looks a bit worn, but that doesn't deter business. Hanalei's only grocery store, Big Save, is here along with a number of other shops useful to locals and visitors. These include Hanalei Music's Strings and Things, where you can buy Hawaiian sheet music, compact discs, handmade instruments, and knitting supplies, as well as rent DVDs; Village Variety, which has a bit of everything; Savage Pearls, a fine jewelry store that specializes in Tahitian pearls and gifts; Hot Rocket, a teen-oriented surf-wear shop; Hanalei Surf Company Back Door, for beachwear and gear; Hula Moon Gifts of Kauai, which offers an assortment of island-themed treasures; Village Snack & Bakery, which sells excellent chocolate cake and coconut-cream pie; and several restaurants. A few steps away are Evolve Love Artists Gallery, a good place to find high-quality work by local artisans, and On the Road to Hanalei, a neat boutique with gifts, clothing, jewelry, housewares, and collectibles from Indonesia.
