Duke's Canoe Club
Duke's Canoe Club Review
Surfing legend Duke Kahanamoku is immortalized at this casual bi-level restaurant set on Kalapaki Bay. Guests can admire surfboards, photos, and other memorabilia marking the Duke's long tenure as a waterman. It's an interesting collection, and an indoor garden and waterfall add to the pleasing sights. You'll find simple fare ranging from fish tacos and stir-fried cashew chicken to hamburgers, served 11 am to 11 pm. At dinner, fresh fish prepared in a variety of styles is the best choice. Duke's claims to have the biggest salad bar on the island, though given the lack of competition, that isn't saying much. A happy-hour drink and appetizer is a less expensive way to enjoy the moonrises and ocean views here—though it can get pretty crowded. The Barefoot Bar is a hot spot for after-dinner drinks, too.

Got here early on our last night in Kauai, 4 adults and 2 kids. Salad bar was okay. All adults had fish; all adults liked same. All adults eat fresh ocean fish often on West Coast of the mainland. Kids were taken care of with kids menu. The service was excellent and the prices were reasonable. Atmosphere was a little noisy, still we will eat here on our way to the airport on our next visit.

We waited one hour and 45 minutes to be seated, 45 minutes more than what we were quoted from the hostess Gabriella. They shoved us into a four-top table even though there were five of us. It took the waiter 15 minutes to take our entree order after bringing our drinks, that were watered down by the way. He never told us what the fresh fish they had to offer were. The only good thing about the restaurant is the incredible views, but you can't enjoy it at night because they have no lights on the beach. All in all, go there during daylight hours just for a drink and maybe a sandwich. The food on the main menu at night is too expensive and not very good, and the service is terrible. We were very disappointed.
