Spacious one- and two-bedroom condo units are minutes from Poipu's restaurants and beaches. White-frame exteriors and double-pitched roofs complement the tropical landscaping. Interiors include full kitchens and entertainment centers. Choose from garden and across-the-street-to-the-ocean views. Three deluxe 2,600-square-foot penthouse suites have enormous lanai, private elevators, and cathedral ceilings. You can mingle at a weekly coffee hour held beside the ocean-view pool or grab a good read from the resort library. Fresh seasonings are ready to be picked from the herb garden, and there's a barbecue poolside. In winter you can whale-watch as you cook. Pros: Units are roomy, good guest services, property is small. Cons: Units are ocean-view, but not oceanfront, a bit pricier than other condos in the area.

Everything about Poipu Kapili is memorable. The oceanfront units have an unobstructed view of the Pacific, which means the sound of the surf lulls you to sleep. We saw whales two days in a row while we were sitting in the living room of our unit. The condominium is up-to-date (new furniture, carpeting, and utensils) with plenty of space for everyone. The unit's lay-out is terrific, with common areas downstairs and bedrooms and baths upstairs. The unit also has a laundry room and an extra bathroom downstairs. There's a wonderful pool at the center of the property, and it's a couple of minute walk to a great beach. Because there's no beach on property, you have extra privacy as no one is standing in front of your unit at any time. And the folks who run the place are really focused on making your reservations work and your stay really enjoyable. This is THE place to stay in the Poipu area.
