Fodor's Review:

(At this writing, this property is undergoing major renovations due to be completed in September, 2009.) Built into the cliffs above Hanalei Bay, this sprawling Starwood resort offers expansive views of the sea and mountains, including Makana, the landmark peak immortalized as the mysterious Bali Hai island in the film South Pacific. Spacious guest rooms are designed in bold colors to match those of Kauai's abundant yellow hibiscus, red ohia flower, and dark green mokihana berry. Little details make a difference, such as lighted closets, dimmer switches on all lamps, original artwork, and door chimes. Bathrooms feature height-adjustable showerheads and a privacy window—flip a switch and it goes from clear to opaque so you can see the sights without becoming an attraction yourself. Two restaurants serve excellent food and excellent views, and the poolside luau is lavish. The Living Room, a swanky bar with nightly entertainment, has big windows that showcase gorgeous sunsets. There's shuttle service to the resort's two top-ranked golf courses, spa, and tennis center, none of which is on the hotel grounds. Pros: Great views, excellent restaurants, attractive lobby. Cons: Inconvenient parking, minimal grounds.

  • Hotel Details: 201 rooms, 51 suites
  • In-room: refrigerator.
  • In-hotel: 4 restaurants, golf courses, room service, tennis courts, bars, children's programs (ages 5-12), pool, gym, spa, laundry service, beachfront.

If you agree with this statement then this is the place for you. If you don't agree, or have self imposed restructions like cash on your mind - forget it. For those who deserve it - then you must go and indulge. Wonderful place, soon to be even more wonderful considering they are upgrading the facility. Definitely a place to go back to once it reopens in late 2009. We spent a wonderful 2 weeks here this year because we do deserve it! Life is too short. Enjoy!

My husband and I were married at the hotel at Princeville in 1994. We have returned many times since then at different times of the year. We live on a beautiful Florida beach and we both travel worldwide for business and have been fortunate to visit Phuket, Bali, Fiji, the Greek Isles, the French and Italian Rivera, Croatian coast, Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean Islands and this is still our favorite place to visit. You don't care what time of day it is, what day it is and what happens in the world when you are there. The pool and beach areas are beautifully situated. The rooms are beautifully furnished. The restaurants have spectacular views and varied selections. Attention to detail is taken with their customers from the time you arrive to the time you depart. Splurge if you must to get an idea of what paradise really is.

We stayed at the Princeville for our honeymoon and it was perfect. Beautiful beach, daily waterfall views, impeccable service. I cannot rave enough about the service, atmosphere, conceirge desk - they really help you! Restaurants were excellent at the hotel and breakfast was a dream every morning - on an outdoor balcony with waterfall views. We will definitely go back and stay here. Only reason to stay anywhere else - the drive to the southern part of the island. Stay here at least half of your trip.
