The menu at this authentic northern Italian restaurant is as impressive as the views of Kalapaki Bay and the Haupu range. Owner Giuseppe Avocadi's flawless dishes have garnered a host of culinary awards and raves from dining critics. The fresh ahi carpaccio is a signature dish, and pasta, scampi, and veal are enhanced by sauces that soar like Avocadi's imagination. Linger over coffee and ice-cream-filled profiteroles or traditional tiramisu while enjoying harp music. Excellent service and a soothing, dignified ambience complete the delightful dining experience, making this one of your best bets for a quality meal in Lihue.

We had heard that Cafe Portofino was one of the better Italian restaurants on the island. Boy were we wrong!
They sat us down very quickly and the views are great if there is just 2 of you, if there are more then 2 of you will be staring at the Marriott.
Are food was had a bland taste, was luke warm and was not prepared as stated on the menu.
Kenny our waiter had some issues with inputing the order and we sat for 2 hours waiting for our food. He only checked on us twice after the first 30 minutes.
The owner came to apologize only after we told our server that we did not want the main dishes and just to bring our check after 1.75 hours of waiting. The owner was not sincere in his apology at all and kept blaming the "new" computer system. I would think that you would have bugs worked out by a weekend night.
Now one good thing about the place is their selection of very good Italian wines. They had great knowledge of their selection and spent several minutes talking to us about what we wanted.
But that did not make up for the bad service.
