Fodor's Expert Review Wrangler's Steakhouse
Steaks are grilled over kiawe wood and ribs are succulent here, although Wrangler's could be called "Anglers" instead, as they do a nice job with fresh fish, too; a trip to a small salad bar, soup, and sides are included with entrées. Local folks love the kaukau tin special: rice, chicken teriyaki, and vegetable tempura with kimchi served in a three-tier kaukau tin, a lunch pail just like the ones sugar-plantation workers once carried. Denim-covered seating, decorative saddles, and a stagecoach in a loft helped transform the historic Ako General Store in Waimea into a comfortable, Western-look steak house where you can eat on the front porch, on the deck out back, or in the old-fashioned wood-panel dining room. The Saddle Room features a bar menu with great burgers, and sometimes there's live music.
