Fodor's Review

Located in what was once Kauai's most expensive plantation estate, Gaylord's pays tribute to the elegant dining rooms of 1930s high society. Although the food is satisfying, Gaylord's is primarily about ambience. Tables with candlelight sit on a cobblestone patio that surrounds a fountain and overlooks a wide lawn. The menu is eclectic, ranging from tender seared scallops served in a fennel cream with potato croquettes to buttermilk fried chicken with a thick country gravy. Try the fish-packed cioppino or the tender hoisin-glazed pork short ribs. The pineapple shortcake is a tasty twist on an old favorite. Lunch mostly consists of pricey burgers, crepes, and salads. The lavish Sunday brunch buffet includes an ahi tuna Benedict, blackened steak and eggs, and a waffle station. Before or after dining you can stroll the estate grounds.
