Waimea Plantation Cottages

9400 Kaumualii Hwy., Box 367, Waimea (Kauai County), Hawaii, 96796, USA

History buffs will adore these relocated and refurbished sugar-plantation cottages, which were originally built in the early 1900s. They're now being managed by Coast Hotels. The one- to five-bedroom cottages are tucked among coconut trees along a lovely stretch of coastline on the sunny West Side. (Note that swimming waters here are often murky, but morning and evening strolls on the black sand are special.) It's a great property for family reunions or other large gatherings. These cozy homes of different sizes are replete with porches and feature plantation-era furnishings, modern kitchens, and cable TV. Guests can also use the swimming pool, barbecues, and hammocks on the grounds. This is a truly unique property, but it's very modest and does not have the usual resort amenities. Waimea town has limited shops and restaurants, but it's close to Waimea Canyon and Kokee State Park.
