Fodor's Review

Tokkuri-Tei. This is a favorite of locals for the playful atmosphere that belies the quality of the food created by chef Hideaki "Santa" Miyoshi, famous for his quirky menu names ("Nick Jagger" and "spider poke" among them); just say omakase, kudasai ("chef's choice, please"), and he'll order for you. Just be aware that some of the more rare seafood dishes can cost up to $45 (each). Get the ahi tartare poke—an unwieldly mound of tuna on a little pedestal

of grilled rice topped with tobiko (flying fish roe) and drizzled with their house sauce made from mayo, rice vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, and black pepper. 449 Kapahulu Ave., Kapahulu, Honolulu, HI, 96816. 808/732–6480.
