Kua Aina Sandwich

Updated 01/17/2014

Fodor's Review

This North Shore spot has gone from funky burger shack (it first opened in 1975) to institution, with crowds of tourists and locals standing in line to order the large, hand-formed burgers heaped with bacon, cheese, salsa, and pineapples. The patties are packed tight, so they tend to be on the dry side. Kua Aina also has a Honolulu location in the Ward Centre.

Still thinking about that burger

The hamburgers were as good as promised. In fact, one of the best burgers Ive ever eaten. Theyve moved to a new space a few doors down from their old address.

A Definite MUST!

Everytime I travel around the island, I always want to stop at Kua'aina's. They have some of the best burgers and sandwiches I have ever had. You can choose between two sizes of burgers and can get just about every combination, from standard lettuce and tomato, to avocado and sprouts! Also try some of the other sandwiches. My favorite non-burger is the pastrami sandwich. Best I've had this side of New York. Fries are of the shoestring variety

and greasy as a teen's face, but what they heck, it's still pretty good. It gets very crowded with the line out the door so try to eat at an off-time...if there is such a thing here. Best bet is to get it to go and drive out to Haleiwa beach park and enjoy a little picnic on the beach.
