Keo's in Waikiki

Updated 01/17/2014

Fodor's Review

Many Islanders—and many Hollywood stars—have gotten their first taste of pad Thai noodles, lemongrass, and coconut milk curry at one of veteran restaurateur Keo Sananikone's eateries. This one, perched at the entrance to Waikiki, characterizes his formula: a bright, clean space awash in flowers with intriguing menu titles and reasonable prices. Evil Jungle Prince, a stir-fry redolent of Thai basil, flecked with chilis and rich with coconut milk, is a classic; also try the apple bananas (smaller, sweeter variety of banana) in coconut milk. The Eastern and Western breakfasts are popular.

Keo oh no

i'm not sure what the attraction is in this place except that the proprietor who is omnipresent grows his own herbs. Otherwise, the menu's are basically in Japanese except for the photos and the good news is food does look like photos but if you want substitutions, beware, as this place operates on volume so you can delete from order but expect to be charged for the full item anyway. Aloha.

The Best Food!

WOW! We really loved Keo's. The food (Thai) was fabulous, different, not spicy at all if you order the mild dishes. The only thing is that I wish we did not sit near the street; the bus and traffic noise was distracting. Next time we will ask for a table away from the open area. Service was impeccible; very lovely interiors with gorgeous floral arrangements fresh from Keo's farm (like the produce used to prepare the dishes).

Big disappointment

What a bust: mediocre food, cramped tables, expensive, not worth it. Avoid this place!

Great food, poor service

The restaurant is everything Fodor's says, especially the Evil Jungle Prince dish--wonderful, wonderful. Don't expect service though. It seems to be a move em' in and move em' out kind of place, albeit beautiful. We were not asked for a second drink, water or dessert.
