Fodor's Review:

If you have your heart set on getting away to Oahu's western shores, check out this hotel and (primarily) vacation-ownership property. Rooms range from hotel-style standard guest rooms to expansive and elegantly appointed one- or two-bedroom apartments. Interior decor soothes in rich reds, greens, and creamy soft yellows, with furnishings made of rare Hawaiian koa wood. The larger villas (1,240 square feet) have three TVs, full kitchens, and separate living and dining areas. On 30 acres of Ko Olina, fronting a lagoon, this resort has two pools (one with sandy-beach bottom), a fitness center, barbecue areas, and four outdoor hot tubs, including one overlooking the ocean that's ideal for sunset soaks. Guests can choose from two restaurants on the property or purchase groceries at The Market, on-site. Pros: Suites are beautifully decorated and ample for families, nice views. Cons: 40-minute drive to Honolulu, ongoing construction at other properties nearby.

My husband and I just returned from the Beach Club at Ko Olina. We were there on an invite from Marriott to look at the property and consider purchasing. We loved the room (it is massive) and in excellent condition. The service was very good and everyone was exceptionally friendly. It is very far away (especially during high traffic periods) from most everything on Oahu, but if you want to just zone out at the beach and see amazing sunsets - then this is the place for you! The main drawback for us was the fact that the pools are very unimpressive and the beach lagoons are kind of boring after awhile to swim in. Also, there is a massive industrial power plant to the east of the property - far away, but always visible in the distance. I would return here if we were invited back on a package again - but I don't see why anyone would spend the money to own one week here.

We stayed at the Marriott Ko Olina for two nights at the tail-end of our trip in Hawaii(Dec 28-30, 2006). What a disappointment! Although the hotel is fairly new with well-appointed rooms the service is sorely lacking. We checked in at 4pm, an hour after check-in time, and our room was not ready. We were given keys to our room at 5pm only to find that our bags had not made it to the room. After calling the frontdesk 3 times, the bellhop finally delivered our bags an hour and a half later. Also, the bellhop noticed we didn't have a luggage rack in our room and offered to bring us one. We never saw him again. It only got worse from there. We decided to utilize their shuttle service to visit the giftshop at the JW Marriott. The shuttle supposedly runs every 15 minutes. We waited approximately 45 minutes for the shuttle, which never arrived, and ended up walking a little over half a mile to the giftshop. Our overall experience at this hotel sucked. Unless you're staying here for free, don't bother. Stay somewhere else.
