When You Arrive

Honolulu International Airport is 20 minutes from Waikiki (40 during rush hour). Car rental is across the street from baggage claim. A cumbersome and inefficient airport taxi system requires you to line up to a taxi wrangler who radios for cars (about $25 to Waikiki). Other options: TheBus ($2, one lap-size bag allowed) or public airport shuttle ($8). Ask the driver to take H1, not Nimitz Highway, at least as far as downtown, or your introduction to paradise will be Honolulu's industrial backside.
