Hawaii Travel Money Saving Tips
Skip high season. Mid-December through mid-April and June through Labor Day are the most popular times to visit Hawaii. May and fall bring better deals, fewer crowds, and the same gorgeous weather.
Look for free nights. Many hotels offer free nights based on stays of three nights or more, especially in the off season.
Consider booking a suite. Instead of booking multiple rooms, inquire about family suites that can accommodate everyone.
Ask about kids' activity prices. Many tour and activity operators lower their prices for children, and kids under a certain age can sometimes tag along for free.
Eat like a local. Hawaii boasts world-class restaurants, but fine dining comes at a price. Hawaiian plate lunches cost a lot less, and provide delicious, hearty fare. For fresh fruit and produce, you can’t beat the myriad roadside food stands and farmers' markets.
Save on Hawaiian souvenirs. If you’re looking to load up on postcards, surf gear, or knickknacks, hop into Safeway, Target, or Wal-Mart. These large retailers carry a solid selection of island goods, at much lower prices than the hotel gift shop.
