Fodor's Review

Monstera. It may not be beachfront with a view of the sunset, but this Shops at Mauna Lani eatery is worth a visit for its sophisticated Japanese pub food with a touch of local inspiration. Chef Norio Yamamoto's dinner menu includes his signature Original 69 Roll with dungeness crab. There are excellent sizzling plate items like short ribs and New York steak, hot and cold noodle dishes, and, of course, outstanding sushi. Most people make a meal out of sharing several

small-plate items to sample a bit of everything. For dessert, a tempura banana is drizzled with chocolate and caramel. The keiki (children's) menu has chicken nuggets and udon noodles. It's best to make a reservation; you can also get some of the menu to go. The Shops at Mauna Lani, 68-1330 Mauna Lani Dr., Waikoloa, HI, 96738. 808/887–2711. www.monsterasushi.com. No lunch.
