There's hardly any sand here near road's end in Keaukaha, east of Hilo, but these two beaches make up one beautiful spot—laced with bays, inlets, lagoons, and pretty parks. It's a peaceful setting for a lazy day at the beach; the grassy area is ideal for picnics. Rocky outcrops provide shelter for schools of reef fish, and snorkeling can be great, as turtles and dolphins frequent this area. Local kids use the small black sand pocket beach for bodyboarding.
