This small beach park is a picture postcard of tropical Hawaii. The Kolekole Stream meets the ocean here between Akaka and Umauma Falls, just below a high bridge that crosses the gulch along Highway 19. The beach is composed of large, smooth, waterworn lava rocks. Although the shoreline is rocky, the stream is calm and great for swimming. There's even a rope swing tied to a banyan tree on the opposite side. The stream flows from the lovely tropical Akaka Falls Park located about 4 mi upstream. Even though the park is only fair for beach activities, it's surrounded by vegetation and is ideal for a picnic. Local surfers like this spot in the winter. Where the stream meets the ocean, the surf is rough and the currents strong. Only very experienced swimmers should venture here.
