The unused runway—great for jogging—is still visible above this palm-tree-lined beach at Kailua Park, a popular place to picnic, beachcomb, and sunbathe. It's especially busy on weekends. The generally rocky shoreline has a few small pocket coves of white sand with safe entry to the water and tide pools for children, but for adults it's better for snorkeling than swimming. Conditions are best here on calmer days. An offshore surfing break known as Old Airport is popular with local surfers.
