Although the open-air, beachfront setting is stunning, the CanoeHouse is starting to lose some ground to the other resort restaurants in the food department. It was among the first on the island to offer Pacific Rim fusion, and it still does it well, but the menu seems unoriginal now that fusion is a mainstay at most resort restaurants—it focuses on meat or seafood paired with sauces influenced by foreign cuisines and made with local fruits and vegetables. Shanghai lobster is the standout, and the fresh fish is always cooked to perfection. The wine list is also great, and the location makes the price tag worth it on clear evenings, even with better restaurants a few miles away.
