Although the open-air, beachfront setting is stunning, the CanoeHouse is starting to lose some ground to the other resort restaurants in the food department. It was among the first on the island to offer Pacific Rim fusion, and it still does it well, but the menu lacks originality -- meat or seafood paired with sauces derived from local fruits and vegetables. Shanghai lobster is the standout, but it's not exactly amazing. That said, the wine list is great, and the location could almost make the price tag worth it, if there weren't better restaurants a few miles away.
